On Darien, Spain and Liverpool

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

My younger son Darien has been struggling with fever on and off for the past 2 weeks and it has certainly taken a toil on us. Sleepless nights, crying boy, struggling with medication, and finally, we brought him to KKH (children hospital in case you are wondering) A&E just to make sure it is not something else.

The doctor decided to administer some sort of the steroids (his 2nd time already, 1st time was when he was maybe 1 year back) and place him under observation. They also (struggle to) took blood samples from him to run a blood test. Thank God that nothing serious was discovered. Yesterday he is finally back to childcare and we are just praying that his immunity system will be stronger now.

On a side note, just glad that Spain has won the Euro 2008 Championship with the winning goal from none our than my beloved Liverpool’s Fernando Torres. This is exactly the scenario I dream about, so you can say it’s a dream come true! Haha…even though I only manage to catch 2 ‘live’ games (yeah, I can’t believe it myself), but it was 2 very good games (Spain-Russia Semi-Finals, and of coz Spain-Germany Finals).

Now Torres should be fired up for the start of the BPL (Barclays Premier League) and hopefully we can do better this time round. Not much is head about new signings and we definitely need a couple of top class ones. Gareth Barry has been mentioned but while he is a very solid player, he is not really in the ‘top-class’ category yet. So to pay the mentioned 15million pounds or the 18million pounds Martin O’Neil wanted is just plan ridiculous.

It just show how expensive it is to get home grown talents, and no wonder managers are buying foreign. To think that England didn’t even make it to the Euro finals you can imagine how inflated the prices of the English players are. Having said that, I do hope Barry can come to Liverpool as we need a good left sided player, what with Riise and Kewell leaving.

So I will be monitoring the tranfers in the coming months and I hope I do not have to wait to long to see new signings in Liverpool. Go go Liverpool!
