My New House!!!

Finally, after 6 months of waiting, I step into my new house for the first time on Monday, 11 Feb 2008. Things were generally ok as my wife and I went in and survey the place. Visualizing where to place what things, it was a nice feeling to finally ‘own’ a house again. Not exactly ‘own’ it yet since there is still a huge loan to service.

The first problem came when we can’t open the riser door to access the water tap outside our house. The lock is faulty so we need to inform the town council to repair it first. They call me and told me it will take 1-2 weeks to replace the lock! And it will not even be a lock, just a bolt with no lock. A check around the neighbours riser doors and found out that this is a common faulty item, no wonder the schedule is so pack. So they suggested to force it open first while waiting for it to get repaired so that I can still access it. They did came, the same day, but they force open both doors (the other one houses the electricity) and now I ended up with 2 faulty doors instead of the original 1.

The minute I turn on the tap outside, the meter started to ‘run’ non-stop, I thought it was filling up the toilet bowl or something, or have a tap turned on accidentally, so I went in and check, and found my kitchen, living room and common toilet (which shares the same pipe) starting to get flooded.

I went to the Sembawang branch office this morning to inform them of the situation. The counter lady was very helpful and even helped me to fill up the form, along with some other defects. One been the master bedroom toilet door is installed upside down. When I finish logging in the fault, I was about to step into the lift when my phone rang. The office-in-charge of my case called me and ask to meet me at the office. I was surprise by their efficiency. After understanding the situation, he told me he will dispatch the plumber to take a look and try to fix the water leaking issue the very same morning. I was of course more than happy with their urgency. He also explained that the other problems canĀ  only with fixed next week as the contractors will only start work next, which I fully understand.

So, one up for the Sembawang Branch Office folks and I truly want to thank you for your efficiency.

Hi Kelvin, tks for updating me of your new web sites; i think this one is really interesting. Have you blogged on other sites before?

Congratulation that your new house is ready. Is it somewhere in Sembawang or Yishun? I read that you resolved the faulty riser door issue at the Sembawang TC. Hope that everything is well for you and your family. By the way, how much does your new house cost?

I will be moving into the uni hostel next term, thus am frantically learning to live an independent life.

Hi! Thank you for visiting my humble blog site. I have done a couple blog sites before but this is the only one I am following up, guess this represents me better. Hah.

My new place is in Sembawang, one of those ‘leftover’ units since the launch, it’s a EA (Executive Apartment) and cost me slightly over 300K. So now I am busy checking out warehouse sales and calling for quotes on appliances….and spending a considerable time at IKEA since I am a IKEA supporter. Heehee…

Wow, hostel living! Think it will be an exciting and fun time, hanging out with your friends in school in slippers and tees. But guess it’s a lot of discipline too, or it may end up all play and no work done. At least that is what I think will happen to me. Hahaha…

yoh…..man…….mine also had such problem…the water flooding into my master bedroom, another bedroom and study room…..it is terrible……how can such vender could be HDB’s contractor to do such jobs………..it is so terrible……..i am wonderring whether there is any corruption inside the deals……

  6. nathan2000 says:

my problem was also fixed within 2 days…but it is really unexceptable as such big problem was not discovered when HDB got units back from those venders…

I also wonder why…but they rectify the fault very quickly, so at least not so bad.
