In a blink of an eye, school holidays are almost over and Christmas is coming soon. It’s going to be the end of 2007 and as another new year starts.
No, I am not a student lamenting how short the holidays are, or a teacher who is busy preparing for the new school year. I am just an ordinary working folk who has a Primary 1 son going to Primary 2 soon and a spouse who is a teacher. So school holidays does have an effect on me. After all, it’s the only time for us to travel, though not this holiday.
This holiday, in order to allow my son to fully benefit from it instead of just stay at home to watch TV, we sent him to many holiday camps and classes. If you read my previous post, with the exception of one which is academic related, the rest are pretty much just for fun. He has enjoyed them so much that he kept asking when is he going for the camps or classes again.
The Cartooning Camp is something he just simply love, been someone who enjoyed drawing. He got so excited in the Little Entrepreneur’s Camp selling his fishball and rojak (along with learning about cost, sales, profit, salary, etc…) that he dream about it after the camp is over. He love the Young Crime Investigation class that he ask how much only 1 day. The War Of The Robots classes got him so excited and he kept describing how he use the software to upload the command to the robot he created and use for the battle. The Kids Adventure Camp is probably the only one he enjoyed but didn’t talk too much about it as it ended not on too good a note, as he was too scared to walk the narrow wooden plank hanging between 2 trees.
He is off to a Miniature 4WD Racing Car class today as he will build and race a mini racing car. I bet he will be asking for more tonight. While at home, after been inspired by the Little Entrepreneur’s Camp, I am teaching him to list and sell items on eBay and see if he can earn a small profit from it. So, I’ve been cracking my brain to find a simple way to teach him and yet allow him to be involved as much as possible without too much technicalities. Hmm…maybe if I have successfully taught him I can start a class teaching other kids…wahahaha…
Oh, did I mentioned we went for an Astronomy class in Science Centre and see absolutely nothing? Not that the class was lousy, but the weather just won’t give way, guess Dec is a bad time for star glazing. But we did have a little treat checking out the ’sky’ and ’stars’ in a giant inflatable igloo like structure where a projector replicate our sky. It was a invaluable learning experience for me, who did showed interest during my younger days. For my son, it was kinda too long a session for him, but we hope to be able to go star glazing on our own and try to see if we can recognized those stars. But I find out that a good telescope is very costly, so we probably got to put that thought on hold.
So, a fulfilling holiday for my son I hope, and it’s time to get back to the books…soon…
